Drive to the Vitosha mountain for a bird’s eye view over the capital. Visit the National History museum and driver back to the hotel, where tour ends. B D Accommodation in the Rodina Hotel**** Day 3 - Sofia - Koprivshtica - Troyan - Veliko Tarnovo Morning departure to Koprivshtica, a museum town of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. The tour of the town (mainly on foot) includes visit to the beautiful old Bulgarian-style houses, which will fascinate you not only with their original architecture but also with their interior 19th century decoration and furnishing. Every single house here is part and parcel of Bulgaria’s history. It was here that the first shot of the April Uprising against Ottoman rule rang out in 1876. Continue to Veliko Tarnovo crossing the Balkan Range at Troyan-Karnare pass. Stop over in Troyan, famous for its traditional ceramics. Visit to the Museum of traditional crafts and applied arts. B D Accommodation in a 3-star hotel in Veliko Tarnovo Day 4 – Veliko Tarnovo - Etara - Shipka Pass - Kazanlak Your day is starting with Veliko Tarnovo - sightseeing of the Mediaeval capital of Bulgaria picturesquely situated on three hills, circled by the Yantra River. Its houses, perched one above the other on the slopes of the hills, still preserve the typical 19th century architecture. Visit the fortress on Tsarevets Hill and Patriarchal Church. Visit the museum village of Arbanassi, rich in old churches, monasteries and old Bulgarian houses. En route visit Etara, an outdoor ethnographic museum village, where 18th-19th century crafts and lifestyle come alive in front of the visitors' eyes. After a short stop in Kazanlak, the centre of the famous Rose Valley, visit the replica of the Thracian Tomb dating 4th-3rd century B.C. B D Accommodation in Kazanlak Day 5 – Kazanlak - Plovdiv Following breakfast, drive south for a sightseeing tour of Plovdiv, including the Old City museum town, visit the Roman Theatre, dating since 2nd century A.D. and the Ethnographic museum. Stroll the narrow cobbled streets and admire the peaceful atmosphere of the Old town. The afternoon drive will take you to Batchkovo monastery, Bulgaria's second largest monastery. The ossuary contains some murals of great value. Built in the 11th century A.D. and painted during the 11th -12th centuries, you can admire in the Refectory the murals of the Last Judgment, the oldest non-canonical painting in Bulgaria. Dinner in a local restaurant in the Old Town. B D Accommodation in Plovdiv Day 6 - Plovdiv - Rila Monastery - Melnik Today you will visit the largest Balkan monastery - Rila Monastery. As you observe its unrivalled architecture and beautiful murals, you’ll come to understand why Rila is on the List of World Cultural Heritage! In the afternoon, you’ll proceed to the museum town of Melnik for a taste of its famous red wine. The smallest town in Bulgaria is scenically located at the foothills of sandstone pyramids , and famous for its ancient architecture and unforgettable red wine.
